{Wedding Dates and Venues}
When you connect with venues, the first thing they ask is what date(s) you’re interested in because the first thing they’ll do is check whether the property is available on that date(s). If it is, then the conversation can go further. If not, then it’s in your and their best interest to move on. So we wanted to provide you with tools that could impact your wedding dates.
Most venues have predetermined ceremony and reception times that are sold in blocks of 4 to 6 hours respectively of actual event time per event. You get additional time for setup and teardown. Every venue is different and you should always understand the specific policies of your venue, but in general, venues sell event space in blocks of 4 to 6 hours per event.
{Indian Weddings and Venue Time Blocks}
For most Muslim nikahs, shaadis or walimas, 4 hours for the ceremony and 6 hours for the reception is more than sufficient for a baraat + ceremony + post ceremony photos + lunch + cocktail hour + reception. If you’re skeptical, remember that lunch is usually served in a different space than where the ceremony is. The ceremony will take place in a garden, lawn, ballroom, or other venue. Whereas lunch will be in a {different} ballroom or other outdoor space.
If your shaadi starts with the baraat at 10am, followed by lunch starting at 11:30am, then you can assume lunch will conclude by 1pm or 1:30pm at the latest. And the rest of the celebration will pick up again with cocktail hour starting around 6pm or 6:30pm through the reception, with an end time of midnight.
You may not need two separate blocks of venue time. Alternatively, you might not need the separate 4 hour block for the shaadi and 6 hour block for the reception. Six hours for the shaadi, cocktail hour and reception would also be plenty of time.
Some venues will let you keep the party going passed midnight without additional fees and be flexible with timing if your event runs later than expected. That’s something to discuss with the venue while negotiating. But as you can see, the 4 and 6 hour blocks of time are great for Muslim weddings.
